Do Not Buy This Coffee - Really Do Not Buy It

Do Not Buy This Coffee - Really Do Not Buy It

Public Service Announcement: No. No. NO. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Don't do it.

We saw this sticker in mid-Feb. 2019 on the bottom of a bag of specialty coffee at a local grocery store. No one should spend their hard earned dollars on this bag of beans. Why?

  1.  This coffee was roasted in mid-DECEMBER.
  2. These beans should’ve been brewed & consumed by mid-to-late January at the latest.
  3. Best by 6/11/19?!? Give me a break. Whoever buys this bag will brew suboptimal, flat tasting specialty coffee at best. Specialty coffee beans cost more because they are of higher quality. If roasted & brewed properly, the resulting coffee will TASTE SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER than other coffees. Once beans are roasted, they begin to age and over time their taste profile evens out eventually tasting bland. FYI - this is why the green mermaid & industrial coffee companies burn their beans: that bitter, burnt, tasting dark roasted coffee you are used to has a longer shelf life minimizing inventory loss.
  4. ALWAYS CHECK THE ROAST DATE on specialty bags. If you are going to spend extra money on great beans, BUY FRESH ROASTED coffee beans from your local coffee shop or a reputable roast-to-order online retailer...like us. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

Post Script: These tips apply to specialty drip, pour over or pressed brewed coffees. This doesn’t apply to moka pot brewed coffees that aren’t specialty (Bustelo, Pilon, etc), Turkish coffee, or coffee brewed at higher elevations (mile high & above).

Cheers and tailwinds!
